The Principals

Principals, Tim Hepworth and David Howard, each have over 20 years of experience in the industry, primarily with large commercial architecture firms providing design and project management services to significant clients around the world.

Tim Hepworth

Tim was born in Northern California. He began working as an architectural interior designer while still in high school and graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture from Cal Poly, Pomona in 1982. After graduation, Tim took a full-time design position with Stanley Felderman and William Bigelow III in Los Angeles. In 2000, Tim was asked to help start-up New York based design firm, HLW's San Francisco office as the Interior Design Director and Marketing Director before starting his own San Francisco based design firm, H+H. From 1999 - 2005, Tim also founded, Destination Foundation, a non-profit organization that granted dream trips to adults diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. Tim has been recognized and honored by the media for his community & design work including news media networks ABC, NBC, CNN, San Francisco Chronicle, SOMA Magazine, and 7x7 Magazine. While fundraising for Destination Foundation he worked closely with Showtime Network. Tim was asked to co-produce an Eco-Chic Fashion Show, “Catwalk on the Wild Side”, for World Environmental Day 2005. After producing the show and meeting Al Gore, Tim was inspired to learn more about Eco-friendly design products and to include them in his design work. His design firm is now working with clients that share this passion. Also, the H+H team is working towards launching, H+H Home, which will include Eco textiles and linens, while focusing on interior design + architecture.

David Howard
has been working for nearly 30 years, on both major commercial projects and significant residences.  He started in New York City with Robert A.M. Stern, an internationally renowned architect whose firm focused on luxury city and suburban residences. David also worked with other well-known firms in New York, including Kohn Pederson Fox, HOK, and HLW International. In 1985, he joined The Architects Collaborative in Cambridge, MA, as the Interiors Department Manager. In 1990, he moved to NBBJ in Seattle, where he was a Studio Director for four years. Project roles included Project Manager for the interiors of the William H. Gates III Residence in Medina, WA, and many Seafirst Bank projects. He transferred to San Francisco to take the role of Marketing Director for NBBJs San Francisco and Los Angeles offices. Then in 1997, he re-joined HLW International in its San Francisco office as a Strategic Planner. His work for HLW also took him to London to lead projects for JP Morgan-Chase, AIG, and the McGraw-Hill Companies. More recently David served as Operations Director for Todd R. Cole Landscape Architecture, and then as Operations Director for Kensington & Associates, a well-known San Francisco interior decorator, who also has a retail store featuring fine antiques and home accessories.

Tim and David have brought their combined experience together to start Hepworth + Howard, Inc. where they are focusing on projects that offer a more direct relationship with their clients with a high degree of personal service. They are actively seeking clients with projects that demand a sophisticated and holistic design approach.
